Frequently Asked Questions

Why is water droplet size so critical to a successful system?

Mist droplet size is critical for a few reasons. Firstly is the ability to atomise or evaporate effectively, as the purpose of our systems are to resolve issues by controlling environments & air quality or temperature. A finer mist particle will do this more effectively without causing wetting, or drips, dispersing as a fine fog upon release, and use less water for a better outcome.

Secondly, a finer mist hangs in the air longer, filling a larger volume of space, again for greater impact and results. For dust suppression of airborne hazards, matching mist droplet to dust particle size is essential for the 2 particles to bond and gently settle safely to the ground where it can’t be breathed into airways or spread into areas where it cause further problems.

1000psi pump pressure is essential for these results.

Will misting work in my area & how is it controlled?
Misting has such a wide range of uses & applications across so many industries. Speak to our team and they’ll be able to advise options.

We take into consideration your specific location, the venue layout or area, factors influencing climate, wind direction and conditions, operational requirements, or any risks such as health & safety, regulations etc.

Anywhere outdoors is easy and then semi enclosed areas such as cafes, decks, balconies etc. Indoors it’s fine in workshops, factories, industrial sites etc. Only in small enclosed areas will it raise humidity. Often we’ll add a cycle timer to the pump module, which has an on/off cycle with controls to vary easily.

Occasionally we get enquiries to change a climate that are an outright no, ie indoor swimming pool complexes that are already 99% humidity.

We also wouldn’t do a low pressure (mains tap only and no pump) into a commercial alfresco venue as they just don’t work.

Will the mist system wet floors, people, machinery etc?
We strictly use high pressure pumps that run at 1000psi / 70 bar & ultra fine nozzles to create a mist without drips or wetting people (customers, workers), machinery, floors or electrics.

Our misting will not wet the product or take it’s toll on equipment as is the case with multi stage pumps or low pressure units.

Mist nozzles needs 1-2m of space so we can tailor the mist system & placement to avoid over misting and to achieve the results required. Fans are better in some areas for further reach and airflow, while mist lines are better in others.

In industrial situations, our systems are regularly used to suppress dust and installed into plants or production areas that are very sensitive to any form of excess moisture. (concrete batching, building materials, fertiliser, recycling etc).

How to install & who installs the misting system?
Our tailor made systems and kits all come with installation instructions, guides and resources to help for easy install.

Fixed static lines, which are the nozzles spaced at intervals have a pump connected to power and mains water, then a delivery line routing to where the nozzles are placed. Often misting nozzles can be cable tied to a stainless wire above a beer garden etc.

Saddles are used to secure the lines to the structure (ie fascia of a building, wall etc) while in industrial facilities often the semi rigid nylon lines can be cable tied to trusses or catenary wire.
Mist fans require mains power as well as delivery line / tubing running back to the high pressure pump.

Aside from setting up power and water connections in advance, a tradesperson is not mandatory to install.

Speak to OZmist about installation options and preferred option for you. In additional to our own team, we have a network that may be able to help if you’d like someone to install your OZmist system.

What is delivery time & turnaround like?
OZmist head office, warehouse, workshop & spares department is located in Wangaratta Victoria. Most items are available for immediate dispatch, or could be ready for sent out in a few days.

For cooling systems, we always have seasonal demand heading into the warmer months. Keep in mind for any system that needs installation, ie venues, there will be a knock on effect if you are arranging tradespeople and coordinating connections, and planned works. Please avoid the summer rush, and plan ahead for these scenarios.

OZmist’s Fog Cannons we build on a rolling production schedule and we aim to always have units built up and readily available at any given time. However availability & stock levels often changes at short notice.

Advance notice, pre orders or regular updates will help allocation and avoid disappointment. This is especially for our popular Fog Cannons range often needed for short notice for projects.

As a local manufacturer we have the ability to ramp up production to a degree. Cannon fabrication can take up to 2 months end to end, with various stages of fabrication components and chassis, assembly, fitting motors, pumps and internal electrics, testing etc
We are also bound by supply chain lead times.

Certain items like our CanCool event fans we only build annually in low season and we plan that into our annual production schedule. Pre ordering CanCools prior to August cut off date is highly recommended.

What servicing and maintenance is required?
Pumps need an initial oil change at 50 hours once run in, then annual oil change at approx 300 hours. Filters, electrics are readily available Australia wide, while OZmist carries all other consumables and spare parts in stock, for quick turnaround and to keep projects moving.
Quality high pressure pumps are our CPM commercial (up to 3ltr capacity) through to our OZmist built industrial pumps starting at 5ltr capacity (85 nozzles) up to Three Phase pumps 320 nozzles.

All systems come with service guides and instructions. Fog Cannons have a service kit, tool box, hardcopy file of operators instructions and QR code with same details.

OZmist systems use quality components that are used in venues, facilities and the toughest worksites Australian wide & exported internationally. We’ve got pumps out in the field that have clocked up many thousands of hours use and still performing brilliantly due to being maintained and serviced correctly. We also see pumps come back with oil like sludge & have never had a filter changed.

What do you recommend for indoor or outdoor industrial sites dealing with dust issues?
By installing a dust suppression mist system in waste transfer stations, recycling plants, crushing plants etc we can effectively eliminate airborne dust from inside and also from exiting the building. It doesn’t matter how big the building is as misting lines can be assembled to any length, using the Tee’s, elbow’s etc allowing the design to reach all areas required. They are referred to as Fixed or Static, as they are attached to structure, and need installation.

Fog cannons of course are fully mobile and best used outdoors (construction sites, civil projects, quarries & mine sites etc). Most have 330 oscillation and remote control operation. They are quickly becoming the norm on many projects especially with recent changes to regulations around silicosis, dust exposure, workplace safety etc. Being Australian made, self contained, and easy to get parts for seems to be a key factor for their growing demand.

Furthermore, OZmist systems can be fitted with Cycle timers, weather stations, thermostats, humidistats, motion sensors, solenoids etc to provide further control over the pump module and misting system to suit a particular area or process.
